From a difficult file to a printed gift
Rebuilding a multicolour ornament around the client's actual Bambu Studio workflow.

I rebuilt a troublesome ornament model, separated the colour regions and worked through slicer and assembly feedback with a client who was new to multicolour printing.
The brief
The existing model could slice as one arrangement, but moving the lid to a separate plate caused problems. Uneven lettering and difficult object selection also made it hard to prepare multiple gifts. The goal was a usable printing workflow, with separate body and lid plates and controllable colours.
How it went
Rebuild around the intended workflow
After inspecting the supplied geometry, I recommended reconstruction. I modelled the body and lid from the agreed dimensions, rebuilt the lettering and separated the colour-ready geometry.
Check what survived slicing
We reviewed the model in Bambu Studio, where fine lettering and small details behaved differently from the CAD preview. I revised the text and exchanged STEP and 3MF versions while the client checked colour selection and layer previews.
Use print feedback to choose the next change
The client tested lid orientations and reported support and thread-fit problems. I supplied revised lips and flatter lid options. We retained the better-performing body-and-lid combination instead of assuming that every new revision was an improvement.
Close with an identifiable final package
After several revisions, I clarified the current files. The client also adjusted slicer settings and discovered a thin-wall option that helped the lettering. The final outcome was a joint CAD-and-print iteration, with the physical printing performed by the client.
The decision I would defend
The deliverable was more than a surface model: it had to remain editable by colour and understandable to the person operating the printer.
Outcome
The client shared completed ornaments at 100%, 60% and 50% scale, reported being very happy with them, and later shared that the first gift had reached a friend. The paid contract received a public 5/5 review and led to a new character-case commission.
Delivered
- Separate body and lid geometry
- Revised multicolour 3MF files
- STEP, STL and OBJ handoff versions
- Rhino working file and slicer review screenshots
Scope and limits
The record includes thread-fit and print-setup issues. It does not establish a reliable reusable screw closure at every scale. Printing, final small slicer tweaks and the thin-wall discovery were the client’s contribution.
