I adapted a supplied boat model toward a Valhalla V46 reference and rebuilt deck elements, then revised the geometry and exports around the client's downstream workflow.

The brief

The client builds RC replicas and needed geometry that captured the lines and proportions of a real vessel. They supplied an existing STEP model and visual references, while retaining responsibility for electronics, interior RC integration and print segmentation.

How it went

Clarify ownership of the workflow

I established that the client would handle internal equipment and splitting the hull for their printer. The target became an exterior replica model, with a requested hollow hull and suitable wall thickness.

Adapt the hull and rebuild the deck

We agreed to use the supplied hull as reference while changing the exterior and creating deck elements such as the console, seating and roof. I shared progress images for review.

Make the handoff compatible

The initial hull handoff was a Rhino file. When the client explained that Fusion would not open it, I supplied STEP. The client approved the hull and later described the boat positively.

Resolve downstream geometry issues

The client needed the upper section to combine and cut correctly. I revised that area, supplied a consolidated boat file and continued cleaning the mid-hull and bow, with updated STEP and Rhino files.

The decision I would defend

A good marine model also had to be usable in someone else’s CAD environment. File compatibility and the behaviour of joined sections became part of the design work.

Outcome

The hull milestone was approved and the complete model was delivered, with further bow revisions through early March. The client requested another project during the revision process.

Delivered

  • Revised hull STEP file
  • Complete boat STEP file
  • Upper-section and bow revisions
  • Rhino working file

Scope and limits

This was reference-based replica modelling using supplied geometry. The record does not demonstrate CFD validation, a tested speed improvement, or a completed physical print of this particular model. Some coordination moved to WhatsApp and is outside this review.
